What Do I Need A General Liability or Professional Liability?

As we’ve talked about me, writing personalized insurance as well as commercial insurance, and I’ve been writing more commercial insurance recently, which is really good for me, my business, and the ability to help other people insure their business correctly.

The difference Between General Liability and Professional Liability

I was just explaining to a client recently about their business, and their photographers the difference between a general liability policy and a professional. Why in a lot of cases it makes sense for them to have both.

General Liability

When we think about general liability, the easy phrase that we put with it is slip, strips, and falls. Somebody gets injured, somebody falls on set. For a photographer, somebody gets injured, they come into your place of work, and they’re injured, that’s going to be your general liability.

If you’re a contractor and you go into somebody’s home and maybe you manage their property, you put a hole in the wall and you caused significant damage, general liability is going to come in there.

Professional Liability

But if you are in a profession where you are giving advice, where you are giving your opinion, or when you are taking pictures and editing them and making them look as good as they possibly can that’s a professional liability that’s a liability regarding your trade, your skill, your passion, your advice to them.

Who Needs Professional Liability?

So in a lot of cases, you know who needs professional liability?  Realtors, mortgage lenders, insurance agents, lawyers, doctors, medical malpractice. But it even goes into some other categories. For example, photographers or artists may need it.
