Springtime and summer are when many people tend to move, and it’s significantly less expensive to move when renting a box truck, whether it’s from U-Haul or Penske, or any of the major rental companies. A couple of things to understand from an insurance perspective is that your auto insurance is going to your auto insurance if you rent a car.
Consider These 3 Safety Tips Before Renting A Box Truck
1.What does your auto insurance cover and what doesn’t
You will typically transition and protect that car with your auto insurance if you rent a car. It’s not the same case when you’re renting a box truck.
2.Get The Highest Insurance Coverage
Most personal auto policies will not cover the rental of a box truck. So when you are budgeting and renting out these vehicles, make sure you figure out what the insurance is. I recommend getting the highest insurance possible that will give you the best liability, comprehensive, and collision, personal property damage that you can do.
3.Don’t Have Experience Driving A Box Truck
Box trucks are big. They’re awkward. Most people don’t have a lot of experience driving them. So if you’re driving a 26foot box truck and accidentally graze another vehicle that’s covered. You’re not going to pay anything out of pocket. It’s better to pay a little more upfront than worry about it on the back end.
So, if you’re going to be renting a box truck, if you’re going to be renting an oversized vehicle or truck from Home Depot, any of these summer projects moving, it’s always good to get the extra insurance with that. Spend a couple of extra dollars on the front end could save you a lot of money and hassle on the back end.
