I wanted to talk to you guys about the homeowner’s insurance and renter’s insurance and the design behind insurance. I hope this will help you identify when to put in an Insurance Claim.
Sudden And Accidental
You know, insurance is set up to cover Sudden and accidental losses. When you think about a car crash (auto insurance claim)or think about a hail storm (home insurance claim), or think about a hail storm on your home, those are all sudden and accidental.
Wear And Tear Coverage
What insurance it is not designed for is wear and tear your things wearing out. Having a roof that is 35 years old now, and it’s starting to leak. That’s not the design of insurance.
When To Put In An Insurance Claim
Now there’s a lot of cases when you want to put it in an insurance claim, or if you think you may have a claim that you need help identifying, was this sudden an accident or was this wear and tear?
You know, the example that I’ll use for this is that I recently had a $35,000 water claim in my home. My drainage pipe broke, it leaked water onto my floor, and it ruined my hardwood floor, a long story short. You can follow me on Facebook as I tell that story.
Commonly Asked Questions When Putting In An Insurance Claim
Ultimately, two of the questions that the insurance adjuster asked me that I won’t forget is once she asked me how the pipe was, well, this pipe.
1. How old was the pipe
I don’t know how old it is. It’s more than five years old, that’s when I bought the house. The pipe is behind a wall behind my cabinets. I never noticed the pipe.
2. Was the pipe leaking previously
She also asked me if I had a previous leaking which I had not. There were no signs before my claim that I had any leaking. From that determination, we were able to put it into their sudden and accidental.
I went to bed one night. The following day, I had water on my kitchen floor. A water leak ruined my floor. We went down to $35,000 if I had had a slight leak. If the pipe we knew was really old and put it under wear and tear, maybe the insurance company will deny that claim.
