Hey guys, Jason here with 303 Insurance Brokers, and I just got off the phone with a client of mine who was just rear-ended. They were traveling on a local road, stopped for a red light, a small fender bender not on anything big enough to get the police involved, and ultimately gave me a call.

What Could Happen After An Car Accident?

After it happened, I started talking about what information did he collect and not collected? I think that’s an awesome thing to review and understanding. What do you do if a vehicle accident happens, and you’re going to be shaken up? You’re going to be in a little bit of shock. Sometimes you’d have to think about, okay, what do we do?

Fender Bender

The police will not respond to that anymore if it’s a small fender bender. They have other pressing needs other than responding to small fender benders, which happen all over town at this time and age, with so many vehicles on the road.

What Should You Do?

So what should you do?

  1. The first thing in a car accident is, check if everybody is okay? Once we have established that
  2. Get your phone and start taking photos. Let’s make sure we take pictures of the other vehicle. Take a photo of your car. Let’s take a picture of any damage. Capture the license plate of the other vehicle.
  3. I would also make sure we get the other person to take a picture of that if they have an insurance card. If not, ask them for their current car insurance, their policy. Even if they have it in an app on their phone to bring up their insurance policy, snap a picture.
  4. Snap a photo of their driver’s license. If they become unreal, especially if somebody rear-ends you and they are the at-fault party if they are very difficult to work with, maybe that’s the time to get the police involved, and everything like that. But if you can take those pictures ultimately, that gives you enough information to file a police report afterward. It gives you enough contact information to reach out to their insurance. If you were injured, you sleep on it overnight, and you have an issue with your neck or your back or your knee or part of your body. If you need to file an insurance claim with them, you’ve got all that information. It’s all set and ready to go.
  5. Call your insurance agent.

So, if there’s ever a car accident, exchange information. Worst case scenario, you file a claim with your insurance, they filed a claim with their insurance, and then the two insurance companies figure out who’s at fault. So in an emergency, in an accident situation, slow down, collect as much information.

Use your camera on your phone, snap some pictures, call your agent, and I’ll walk you through the process. You can always reach out to me at jason@m303insurance.com or 3035062755.
