Snow Tires

Hey, guys. Jason here with 303 Insurance Brokers. I want to share with you another important insurance of the day. Hey, winter is right around the corner, and one of the most important things you can do to get ready for winter driving is to look at your tires. Do you have winter tires?

1. Getting Ready For Winter

We want to make sure that your tires have good tread on them. Tread on your tires is what allows you to control the car in both rain and snow. So, make sure you got good tread on your tires and understand what kind of tires you have.

2. Get Winter Tires Or All-Weather Tires

If you just relocated from another state, you probably have a summer tire and probably lack an all-weather tire or, specifically, a winter tire, which you need here in Colorado. Snow tires handle better in the snow. So winter tires or all-weather tires are what you want if you live up in the mountains in the foothills of Denver. Most people get away with an all-weather tire.

3. The Difference Between All-weather tires From Ordinary Tires

The difference between an all-weather tire and winter tires is that the snow tires are softer, so it’s going to roll through that snow a little bit smoother, giving you a better stop in traction. Still, if you’re driving a lot on roads with snow tires, you’re just going to wear through them. That rubber is so much softer. You’re going to wear through it, whereas an all-weather tire, you could have a 60,000 to 80,000 mile. You’re going to be lucky to get 20,000 to 30,000 out of a snow tire.

4.Having Different Tires For Different Seasons is Costly

If you want to have a good solution, in skiing, we call it the one quiver solution for having one ski for all conditions that’s the all-weather tire. If you want that summer tire and winter tire, you’re going to have two sets of tires. You’re going to have to pay to get them changed out twice a year.

Still, it’s going to be a little bit better protection, gives you better performance in the summer and better in the winter. But, still, you do have two sets of tires which is added cost.

Be prepared for winter driving. Snow’s going to come at some point.
